  • This planting event is part of the Port of Seattle’s airport land stewardship program and is an opportunity to engage with other community members invested in protecting and restoring urban forests.   • We’re hosting an information table at Burien Bird Fest with the Environmental Science Center and the City of Burien at the Burien Community Center. We’ll present native plants that provide bird habitat and food, like nectar, seeds, cones, and berries, and also shelter plants, like ferns and shrubs essential for a backyard wildlife habitat.   • Field Trip/Work Party in the native plant or rain garden * 10:00-12:30 PM Location at the New Start Community Garden located at the New Start High School in the Highline School District, 614 SW 120th St, Burien, WA 98146 *Youths must be accompanied with their parent or responsible adult – Green infrastructure is an approach to water management that protects, restores, or mimics the natural water cycle to help restore health to Puget Sound waters. Rain gardens and other stormwater management systems for homes and buildings are effective, economical, and enhance wildlife habitat and quality of life for all. Planting native plants and creating rain gardens is a big part of the solution to creating a resilient Puget Sound.

  • Habitat Stewards help with the Highline School District Wildlife Habitat Native Plant and Rain Grace on March 7th, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Tour of the Garden comes first. Why rain gardens? Rain Gardens are an important approach to water management that protects, restores, or mimics the natural water cycle to help restore health to Puget Sound waters.
