Activities include starting plants from seed, divisions, and transplants, or help maintain nursery stock by watering and weeding. Gloves provided. Weed Warrior volunteers receive credit hours toward plants for our restoration projects. Volunteers, tell Nikki you’re volunteering for the Weed Warriors and we’ll receive credit for your hours. March 5th, 2016, Saturday: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Washington Community Wildlife Habitat Retreat. Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave, Edmonds, WA 98020. Any current or interested habitat team members are welcome to attend.  Lunch is provided but please bring a reusable coffee mug from home.  Plan to bring your binders or photos to share.  Remember, your team receives points for a representative attending. Courtney will have a big order of Gardening for Wildlife magazines for you all at the retreat.

April 16th, 2016, Saturday: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Earth Day Crafts at Newcastle King County Library. Address: 12901 Newcastle Way, Newcastle, WA 98056. All supplies provided. Volunteers needed to make tree and costumes and frog hats from construction paper for kids in the Earth Day parade.

April 30th 2016, Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Volunteers help at the WA Native Plant Society plant sale in Bellevue Botanical Gardens, 12001 Main St. Bellevue, WA. Community Service hours can be earned.

May 3, 2016, Tuesday: All Day. Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG. The Foundation sponsors this one-day, online giving event to inspire you and others to give generously to non profits in our region— and the Foundation stretches your donation by adding money of its own, increasing the impact of your donation on that day. It’s a great opportunity to show your support of the Weed Warriors Nature Stewards Program. We are celebrating 9 years of providing educational opportunities, habitat restoration projects, and conservation advocacy in Washington. We appreciate your support of our programs and thank you for making a difference as we reach today’s youth, stewards of the planet for the next generation.

May 6th, 2016, Friday: 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM Annual Day of Service with West Seattle Community Orchard, 10015 28th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98146

May 7th, 2016, Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4 PM. Bloomin’ in Old Burien plant sale hosted by the Mark Restaurant and local businesses. Volunteers needed at 9 AM to help set up and run the information and plant booth. Event takes place in the 900 block of SW 152nd St. Burien, WA.

May 6th, 9th, 11th 2016 – 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Presentation or activity on an environmental related topic for the students in the City of Federal Way. The program is called Storming the Sound with Salmon where students raise Coho salmon in their school, and at the same time, learn about stormwater pollution and other environmental issues. We will give a 15-20 minute presentation/activity given to 25-30 students at a time at the West Hylebos Wetlands Park, 411 S 348th St, Federal Way, WA 98003
Ages: elementary and middle school. Number: total of 400 students per day
This successful program serves 26 elementary, middle, and high schools in Federal Way reaching nearly 10,000 students!

May 12th, Thursday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM Burien Farmers Market Weed Warriors host education booth on native plants for Wildlife Habitats. Market opens at 11:00 AM and closes at 6:00 PM. Volunteers help set-up and run the booth, share information, etc.

May 13th, 2016, Friday: 8:45 AM – 2:00 PM Nature Stewards Presentation on Salmon Habitat for Issaquah School District. Meet at Colman Ferry Terminal, Seattle. We’ll also make the “Salmon Bracelet” as the educational learning tool.

May 14th, 2016, Saturday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Tukwila Backyard Wildlife Festival, Tukwila Community Center, 12424 42nd Ave S, Seattle, WA 98168. Volunteers join us and help host our booth. Students needing community service hours are welcome.

June 5th, 2016, Sunday: 2:00 PM National Trails Day (Day After) Walk the trails in Seahurst Park, Burien. Care to walk through a wooded ravine, bright with late “spring green”? This Sunday, June 5 , our Walk-n-Talk will start at the top of the hill and walk down the service road to the Marine Science Center at the north end of Seahurst Beach.

June 18th & 19th, 2016, Saturday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Burien Strawberry Festival Education outreach. We’re sharing opportunities to participate in Wildlife Habitat, Rain Garden, and Restoration Projects.

Support the Weed Warriors’ Nature Stewards program with your donation and receive a collector’s item out-of-print book, “History of the Eastside.”

Sept. 11th, 2016 – Sunday: Noon – 3:00 PM. Knotweed Injection and Blackberry Removal at Factoria Community Garden located in front of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church 4315 129th Pl SE, Bellevue, WA 98006, just off of Factoria Blvd. Volunteers needed to help big and remove the blackberries. Earn Community service hours! Gloves provided.

Meet in front of Lake Boren Park restrooms. We will walk to the restoration site. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Bring a shovel if possible. Gloves are provided.

Oct 1st, 2016, Saturday: 9:00AM – 5:00PM Volunteers needed to help host booth at the annual Washington Native Plant Society, Central Puget Sound Fall Native Plant Sale and Environmental Fair at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens. Sale opens at 10:00 AM.

October 18th, Tuesday: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We’re hosting an information booth at the King County Department of Elections, 919 SW Grady Way, Renton, WA 98057, USA. Volunteers dress is casual professional. Please be at the office to help set up information materials for our table.

October 29th, Saturday : 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Volunteers arrive at 8:00 AM to help with Plant for the Planet Academy event kids, ages 9-14 in West Seattle on October 29th from 9:00am-5:30pm, at Westside Unitarian Church, 7141 California Ave SW, Seattle, 98136.  Kids will participate in a free , day-long comprehensive workshop and training on getting excited about the wonders of nature and learning about how to combat climate change.  Adult volunteers are needed.

November 12th, 2016, Saturday: 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM Climate OutLoud at the Burien Library. This is a facilitated discussion on Climate Change and the need to cap and reduce carbon emissions now to protect the planet for future generations. Produced in Partnership with Seattle YESC and King County Library System. KCLS Flier Advertising Climate Outloud Volunteers are needed at 1:00 PM to help set up the table and chairs for the audience. Location is the Burien Library, main floor conference room, 400 SW 152nd Street, Suite 100 Burien, WA 98166. Volunteer Flier with Renton School District disclosure.

November 18th, 2016, Friday: 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM Restoration Project with the City of Burien.
Wear sturdy shoes and long sleeves. Dress for the weather. Mathison Park http://burienwa.gov/Facilities/Facility/Details/Mathison-Park-14 2:30-4:00 PM – we will meet by play equipment (swing area).  The kids will be transported from Sylvester Middle School so 2:30 is a target start time.

November 19th, 2016, Saturday: 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM Nursery Project with the King Conservation District. Where:
King Conservation District Nursery in Renton 9 a.m. – 1p.m. Dress for the weather. Check in with Grace at the event and your hours count for trees for our program and projects.

November 22nd, 2016, Tuesday: 4:00 PM Hearing on Contempt of Court against Dept of Ecology is the bold next step that Our Children’s Trust is taking. This is open to the public. We’ve included this as a sequel to the Climate Outloud series which discusses the current court case with the WA State Department of Ecology. This “Contempt of Court” hearing is on the recently passed Washington State Clean Air Act that does not follow current science or protect air and water our young Washingtonians require.
